Shiatsu is an holistic
treatment. Diagnosis and treatment reflect the way we live our lives and so it is essential that the practitioner knows as
much as possible about their client. Diagnosis prior to treatment is achieved
not only by what the client tells the practitioner, but also from facial features, the way a client talks, smells, posture
and sometimes by tongue diagnosis.
Each shiatsu treatment
will normally last approximately one hour. The patient usually lies on the floor on a futon (padded mat) and remains
fully clothed. Treatment positions vary from lying on your front, side or back depending upon your individual requirements.
During the treatment all you need to do is relax.
During a typical treatment
the practitioner will use finger and/or hand pressure to access the Qi flow within the meridians. This is then balanced
by using direct contact with Tsubos (the points used by acupuncturists), massage type techniques along the meridians and rotation
and stretching of joints.
At the end of each
session you will be offered advice based on diet, exercise, and general lifestyle to help you improve your condition (disharmony).
Some people may
feel a little light headed at the end of a treatment - please allow yourself an extra 10 to 15 minutes at the end to sit quietly
before driving away.
